What is silicone?
First off, silicone is not to be confused with silicon. While silicon is a naturally-occurring element, silicone is a polymeric compound consisting mostly of silicon, carbon, and hydrogen atoms. Silicone has great properties : flexibility, malleability, clarity, temperature resistance, water resistance. Silicone products are becoming increasingly popular and can be found in almost every kitchen, bathroom or nursery ,as well as in jewelry for silicone rings and bracelets.
Is silicone safe?
For the most part, it is. FDA says that food grade silicone is safe and will not react with other materials or release hazardous compounds when heated. There are some studies that question silicone really only releases a significant amount of siloxane when exposed to high temperatures. Base on detailed studies, we recommend to avoid high-temperature applications of silicone products. The good news is that absolutely NO siloxanes have been found to leach from silicone products that are NOT EXPOSED to VERY HIGH heat and fat.

Is silicone eco-friendly?
When it comes to environment, silicone is highly durable, and more ocean-friendly than plastic. It lasts longer, and stands up better against heat and cold than plastics. By using silicone, families can dramatically reduce their dependence on plastics, as a means contributing less to this mounting mass of plastics lost in our environment and poisoning our wildlife.
